Editor’s note: This is a special, abbreviated Monday edition of the Linda Vista Update. We want to make sure our readers know about events described below that will be occurring tonight and later this week in Linda Vista. Our regular weekly issue will still be published this Thursday.
If you know of a local military hero, the Linda Vista Town Council (LVTC) wants to hear from you as soon as possible. In a program coordinated with American Legion Post 731, the LVTC is looking for local residents to nominate Linda Vista active duty military members, military veterans, or military veterans who gave their lives in service to this country for the Hometown Heroes Banner program. The program involves selecting a specified number of Linda Vista nominees for this recognition—the respective names and images of the selectees will eventually will be placed on a banner (posted on light poles situated on Linda Vista Road).
Once all nominees have been submitted by the deadline, the LVTC will form a committee to make final selections.
The banners are being sponsored by American Legion Post 731.
The LVTC has identified September 20, 2023—the date of the next monthly LVTC general meeting—as the deadline for submitting nominees for this year.
Please read the above flyer to get details on nominee requirements. You can click here to submit a name for the program. Do it soon!

News Brief
City Homeless Camping Ban Sign Goes Up in LV
An article in this past Tuesday’s issue of the Voice of San Diego explained how the City of San Diego has put up new homeless camping ban signs in certain parks and near some schools. The signs are being put up in conjunction with a police effort to enforce the new law recently signed into action by the City Council. Police can’t start cracking down in any area until signs go up.
The article questioned where the limited amount of signs are going. Apparently, the city doesn’t have the resources to put signs in every park, or near every school. According to the article, the city was putting up signs based on Get it Done encampment complaints and input received from City Council districts.
The Linda Vista Update wandered around the community and conducted its own inspection to see if Linda Vista got any of the new signs. We did succeed in finding one City sign at the Linda Vista Community Park, adjacent to the park’s restrooms, which has been the site of past homeless encampments.
If you have any thoughts as to whether/where any other such signs should go in Linda Vista, please let us know.
