LV Town Council Meeting this Wednesday
Plus: LV Community Garden Construction Progress, Community Yard Sale Announcement, and Foster Kitten Update
Editor’s note: This is a special, abbreviated Monday version of the Linda Vista Update. We want to use this opportunity primarily to get the word out to our readership about Wednesday night’s Linda Vista Town Council general meeting, which occurs before our next regular Thursday morning issue.
The Linda Vista Town Council (LVTC) will hold this month’s general meeting on Wednesday May 15 at the Linda Vista Library. This meeting provides Linda Vista residents with the opportunity to socialize and discuss/learn about important community issues, and to get news updates from the offices of local elected officials, the SD Police Department, and other civic organizations. You don’t have to be a LVTC member to attend. The first half hour of the meeting (6:00 pm to 6:30 pm) is a “meet and greet” time that allows people to talk with fellow residents; the official program begins at 6: 30 pm. This week’s program features two local speakers who will talk about their respective civic organizations and how they contribute to the community.
The purpose of the LVTC is to promote the civic, commercial, educational, cultural interests, and the general welfare of Linda Vista.
LV Community Garden Begins to Blossom
The completion of the long-awaited Linda Vista Community Garden took a major step forward this past Saturday as a number of volunteers showed up at the LV Community Park site (at 7050 Levant Street) to assist in constructing attractive garden beds and filling them with soil. Individual local residents, as well as groups of volunteers pitched in to do the heavy lifting, nailing, shoveling, and wheel barreling throughout the day. The Bayside Community Center has been coordinating Saturday volunteer sessions to help get the Community Garden completed.
In addition to the Bayside Community Center, volunteer groups participating this past Saturday included Female Athlete Volunteers (shown above), the University of San Diego’s (USD) Mulvaney Center, USD’s College Corps, Francis Parker School, and the San Diego Parks Foundation.
Volunteers also included carpenters from San Diego Local 619 (shown above) who used their skills to build the garden beds.
By the end of the day, all the newly constructed garden beds had been filled with soil, courtesy of the hard work expended by the many volunteers who shoveled and delivered the soil from the tall mounds of soil assembled nearby.
The LV Community Garden will have a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 8 at 9:30 am to mark the site’s completion/opening.
Though much was accomplished this past Saturday, there are still opportunities to volunteer installing the Linda Vista Community Garden during the remaining Saturdays in May alongside Bayside Community Center and the San Diego Parks Foundation.
Available dates: May 18, May 25
Available shifts: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm and 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm
Volunteer activities will include soil prep and moving, planting, mulching, assembling, and more. There will also be art activities for children during both the morning and afternoon. Water, coffee, snacks, and lunch will be provided. Please bring your own garden gloves if you have them

Foster Kitten Update
We are happy to report that the two SD Humane Society foster kittens we highlighted in the last two newsletter issues—Jack and Sally—were adopted this past weekend.
We want to remind all of our readers there are still plenty of fantastic animals available for adoption at the SD Humane Society on Gaines Street.
