Plus: Halloween Decorations in LV, and 79th Assembly District Turkey Giveaway,
Editor’s note: This is a special abbreviated Monday edition of the Linda Vista Update. We are publishing today’s newsletter to ensure everyone has time to plan on attending this Thursday’s Love, Linda Vista Farmers Market, which will include several booths comprising the Harvest Health Fair. We also want to take this occasion to wish all our subscribers a spooky Halloween and a memorable Día de los Muertos.
Come to the Harvest Health Fair
An important. informative, and valuable community event will be held this Thursday afternoon November 3 in conjunction with the weekly Love, Linda Vista Farmers Market. The Harvest Health Fair, sponsored by the County of San Diego Health & Human Services Agency and Live Well San Diego, will include a number of booths at the Farmers Market to provide free vaccinations, free health screenings, and educational information for all attendees. Free COVID and free Flu vaccines will be available, along with free screening for Tuberculosis, free blood testing, and distribution of educational material.
The Harvest Health Fair will consist of several local partner agencies, to include the participation of students from Kearny High School’s Biomedical Science and Technology Academy. Other partners include the Asian Pacific Health Foundation, Champions for Health (the non-profit arm of the San Diego County Medical Society), and San Diego County TB Control and Refugee Health Branch/Public Health Services.
The Love, Linda Vista Farmers Market operates from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm each Thursday. at the Linda Vista Plaza Shopping Center. The Harvest Health Fair will operate at this same site this Thursday from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Everyone is invited to attend.
As explained by Jonathan Widener (President of the Love, Linda Vista Farmers Market Board of Directors), the TB screening provides a great service to the community. “TB is on the rise, especially in cities bordering Mexico. The frightening thing is that it spreads among immunocompromised individuals. It can remain dormant in the body for years before making a person ill. The free TB screening clinic tent provided by the County at our market hopes to help people who may be infected and not even know it. I’m grateful for them reaching out to us. ”
Another Farmers Market board member commented, “Our Farmers Market brings certified farmers and various commercial vendors to the community, but it is also committed to ensuring local residents have access to public service organizations like the County’s Health and Human Services Agency. We already have UCSD providing free blood pressure readings every Thursday.”
Linda Vista Update readers are encouraged to come out this Thursday and make the Harvest Health Fair a success. Put the date—November 3—on your calendar. Please share the date and event information with your neighbors and friends.
Of course, the usual group of outstanding vendors, as well as a couple new ones, will be present at the Love, Linda Vista Farmers Market.
See you there!
