The Linda Vista Multi-Cultural Fair and Parade, held on the 6900 block of Linda Vista Road (between Comstock and Ulric Street), is intended to promote cultural awareness and understanding within the City of San Diego. Its numerous cultural exhibits, varied ethnic food offerings and delightful artistic performances are eagerly anticipated by residents and visitors to San Diego. There will be plenty of carnival rides for the kids.
The theme of this year’s Fair is “The View From Home.”

Enjoy Happy Hour Deals at Sushi Yorimichi
We have been reviewing a lot of restaurants lately and prices have gone up so much since we started doing this, that we figured we had to take a break or else start a GoFundMe account in order to continue paying for our meals (especially when we include the Carnivore Sidekick).
Just kidding about the GoFundMe, so please don’t send us any money. 😊
We did, however, think it appropriate in the face of this stubborn inflation to look for some good deals, and we remembered that one of our favorite Linda Vista haunts—Sushi Yorimichi—now has a Happy Hour. That means cheap food and drink, right? We’ve been wanting to give it a try, so this week was as good a time as ever. Sushi Yorimichi is located at Linda Vista Road and Ulric St. next to Linda Liquor.
Happy Hour at Sushi Yorimichi is from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, so in order for it to count as dinner, we did the senior citizen Early Bird Special thing and went about 4:00 pm. We were also curious as to the kind of business that Happy Hour brought to the restaurant.
When we arrived, there was one table available. All the rest were taken, as well as a couple seats at their small bar. We were immediately seated, given menus and our drink order taken. There is a special Happy Hour menu consisting of appetizers, salads, hand rolls and sushi rolls, entrees and noodles, rice bowls, drinks and more. The Happy Hour prices are less than regular menu prices so that made us very happy.
Steve ordered a Sapporo Draft Beer which was $4.50, much better than the normal price of beer. He thought a $4.50 draft beer is such a significant inflation-busting contribution to our economy that it should be considered downright patriotic.
We perused the menu looking for non-meat dishes. Steve chose his usual Crunchy Roll which was only $8.00, and I chose a California Roll (no one can accuse me of being adventurous) for $5.50, and Crab Cream Croquettes (off the appetizer list) for $6.25. I didn’t know what that was, but I love crab so I wanted to give it a shot.
What can you say about the Crunchy Roll and California Roll? They were very good as usual, but at Happy Hour prices I think they tasted even better than usual. However, the star of the show, as far as I was concerned, was the Crab Croquette. The croquette contained an extremely hot cream crab mixture, wrapped in a panko bread crumb coating. It was crunchy and delicate at the same time. And to top it off, it was served with a side of katsu which is my all time favorite sauce. The order consists of two, and unfortunately Steve took up my offer to have one. Won’t make that mistake again. I easily could have eaten two, and then some. They were delicious and Steve really liked it too.
We often eat at Sushi Yorimichi, but usually order by phone and pick up the order. It is always good, and as I said, one of our favorite places. It’s one of the Carnivore Sidekick’s favorites too. And even the Carnivore Sidekick’s sidekick enjoys it as well. We like the Shrimp Rice Curry Bowl and several of their sushi rolls and they have added some new items that look interesting. This was our first time at Happy Hour, and I know we will be back. So if you want to save some money, go on Monday – Friday from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and enjoy some good food and drink for which you won’t have to break the bank. Tell them you read about them AGAIN in the Linda Vista Update.
Howard Wayne to be Honored
The late Howard Wayne, a distinguished Linda Vista resident who passed away this past November, will be honored in a special way by the City of San Diego. During this Monday’s meeting of the San Diego City Council, a proposal made by San Diego City Councilmember Raul Campillo (District 7) to honor Wayne with an honorary street naming in Linda Vista was passed unanimously. A graduate of the University of San Diego’s School of Law, Wayne grew up in San Diego and went on to serve as a Deputy Attorney General, State Assemblymember, and Linda Vista Planning Group Chair. He also served as an advisor to several local elected officials.
The sign will be put on the 1100 block of Morena Boulevard, at the intersection of Buenos Avenue and Morena Boulevard. According to Councilmember Campillo’s office, the site of the street sign was chosen because Wayne was invested in the Morena Corridor Specific Plan and because his wife lives nearby.
“Howard’s passion to make a positive impact wherever he went and with everything he did was an inspiration for so many in the community, myself included,” said San Diego City Councilmember Raul Campillo. “He truly loved his community, and his community loved him. I’m grateful to be able to celebrate Howard with an honorary street naming in his home neighborhood of Linda Vista.”
Councilmember Campillo expects to hold a community celebration for the installation of the street sign in April or May.
